Toastmasters International

I'm a long-time member of Toastmasters International, having achieved the status of Distinguished Toastmaster. I am currently Area 54 Governor, responsible for five TM clubs, and about 100 members.

I know I could look it up, but what do you do as a Toastmaster?

Toastmasters Int'l - been around for over 80 years - helps people develop & improve their public speaking and leadership skills, in turn fostering personal development, self-confidence and self-assurance. Applicable in both professional and personal elements of everyone's lives - from interviews, to meetings, to talking with spouse and children.

For me, I have developed into a professional speaker and trainer, have spoken to audiences of 500+, and can deliver a speech on virtually any topic at the drop of a hat - even if I haven't a freekin' clue what I'm talking about.

I am terribly shy around people I don't know well even if they are related to me. I've toyed with the idea of taking puplic speaking to try and get over it. Just toyed with of course, I'd never do it. I remember Mom and I were at a reading of Corry Ten Boom and they passed around a mic, when it came to me I could not remember my name. I'm a little better than that now.
